Post By Sarah Almond, The Sadder But Wiser Girl

Love is…

…A four letter word sometimes.

…holding your baby for the first time.

…listening to your toddler scream while she poops.

…cuddling with your kids under a blanket on a bitterly cold day.

…answering your son’s five million questions.  EVERY DAY.

…putting important things aside like exercise and eating right for your children.

…enduring football four months out of the year.

…wiping snotty noses  fifty seven times a day.

…letting your husband have his quiet time with his video games so he can unwind from work.

…buying vegetables for your preschooler when she asks, because they’re vegetables.

…enduring kids shows and kids music all day long.

…watching your children open their presents on Christmas knowing that you didn’t get anything.

…biting your tongue when it comes to your husband’s family, even if you almost bite it in half.

…playing the bedtime game until your toddler falls asleep in the hallway.

…seeing the same episode of Abby’s Flying Fairy School so many times you can recite it by heart.

…not stabbing your husband with a pair of scissors when he’s being an ass.

…using the last few dollars that you could spend on yourself on your kids.

…three million pictures made expressly for you, displayed prominently as much as possible.

…eating the French fries that your significant other brought home for you, even if you’re dieting, because he thought of you.

…accepting every little thing given to you as a present and cherishing every one of them, including rocks, acorns, and dead flowers.

…spending hours and hours making a costume that your child will wear once, maybe twice.

…realizing that these years are going to be gone before you know it, and to treasure these moments.
